Microsoft Edge Policy in Intune | Intune - Hybrid

 

Dear Intune Admin,

Within the Autopilot provisioning process, you may have been asked to configure Microsoft Edge settings so that the default home page can be what your Enterprise’s standards are. This may be confusing at first, but we can leverage Intune for this and create an Administrative Template that will act like a GPO (Group Policy Object).

Let us dive in!

Pre-Requisites

Ø  Windows 10, version 1909

Ø  Windows 10, version 1903 with KB4512941 is installed

Ø  Windows 10, version 1809 with KB4512534 is installed

Ø  Windows 10, version 1803 with KB4512509 is installed

Ø  Windows 10, version 1709 with KB4516071 is installed

Administrative Templates in Intune

This procedure leverages Administrative Templates that are built into Intune!

Step 1:

“Endpoint Manager” -> “Devices” -> “Under Policy” -> “Configuration Profiles”

Step 2:

“Create Profile” ->

Platform : Windows 10 and later
Profile Type : Administrative Template

Step 3:

Under “Basics” -> Input a name for this configuration profile

Step 4:

Under “Configuration Settings” -> “Computer Configuration” -> “Microsoft Edge Folder”

Step 5:

Once you are inside the Microsoft Edge folder, please navigate to the “Search bar” and the search string will be “home page”. You will see the following below.

 

Note : You may be confused on which “Configure the home page URL” setting that you wish to change because they have the same setting name, but you can see on the right side that the Path will indicate specifically what the configuration will be responsible for. In our case, we will select the setting that has the path as \Microsoft Edge\Startup, home page and new tab page.

Step 6:

Supported on: Microsoft Windows 7 or later
”Enabled”
Home page URL : https://www.bing.com

Once the Home page URL has been filled in, you can press OK and move on!

Step 7:

You may fill in Scopes if it applies to you, but for our example we will be skipping this section

Step 8:

Under Assignments ->

Please include your desired group that holds the machines you wish the policy to apply onto!

Step 9:

To double check that your configuration setting was “Enabled” you will see this under the “Configuration Settings”


Congrats!

You have now successfully configured the Microsoft Edge policy through the Administrative Template on Intune. You will now be able to log into your Enterprise’s machine and when you boot up Microsoft Edge, your home page will be changed!
